Ab initio:
I started my career as an Events Executive with a Delhi-based event management firm named Conferences &
Incentives Management in April 2004.
My first project of research on India Medical Tourism Exhibition (IMTE) was a challenging, but at the same time
a very knowledgeable and fulfilling experience for me. My responsibility was to do all the secondary and few primary research,
collect all relevant data and information and find out the feasibility of an exhibition on IMTE to be held in London, and
then to provide with the literature for the event promotion and marketing brochure.
The idea was to project, brand and promote India as a destination of Medical Tourism
to the Western countries, where patients have to wait for months to get a small operation done. This specially holds good
for the United Kingdom.
Research, collection and filtering of data started. In the process, I have developed an extensive database of
potential exhibitors, which included leading multi-specialty hospitals, health resorts, spas, medicine and medical instruments
producers, insurance companies, travel agents, third party administrators etc. It took me a couple of weeks to find out the
feasibility of a possible event and in next couple of weeks I created the event brochure.
But, of course the dates were fixed as June 2005, which gave us time for another event before it. Now, it was
the time when we worked on ‘Finance Expo 2004’ in Dilli Haat. This was an event to bring all the financial products
and services providers under one roof to meet all B2B and B2C requirements. My role, once again, was almost the same. Research
and maintenance of database, preparation of proposals, communications with potential clients and finally the on site management
of the event from 3rd till 9th November 2004. We had some of the leading big brands like HSBC Bank,
Citi Financial, ABN AMRO Bank, ICICI Home loans etc, and the presence of nearly ten thousand visitors everyday made the event
a hyperactive one. As this was my first on-site management, it provided me with lots of experience to move ahead.
